CCM uses the top-of-the-line D3O smart material in some key areas of the 9080 model. D3O uses a unique molecular structure which allows molecules to flow freely during standard play, giving the material a soft and flexible feel. But on impact, like a body check or blocked shot, the molecules lock together to absorb and dissipate impact energy. With this tight-lock system, the stronger the impact, the more the molecules react, offering you maximum protection. And after the impact occurs, the molecules return to their free-flowing state, keeping the pants comfortable and flexible.
The hip and back are two key areas where many common injuries can occur during hockey if not properly protected. CCM uses their JDP hip cap and reinforces the area with D3O for a pro-level construction designed to disperse impact away from the hip joint while absorbing shock.
